since it didn't work at GT talk... I have 2 CL ads each listed in 2 listing areas (4 ads total) that I couldn't link to GTT... 6710765657 and post id: 6710765120

in case the links don't work here (you guys wonder why I don't post pix on the websites I frequent? good example why... IT DONT WORK!)
I have a power rake and a tow behind aerator/spreader listed in both Chicago CL and Champaign/ Urbana ("chambana") CL. both in "farm and garden" section.
I occasionally can successfully post links, the rest of the time I sit and wonder what I did to make them work the last time I got them to work... I hate computers.

yeah that's them, THANKS. I posted the ad with my phone, tried to link them here with my home computer.

ok the aerator just left... CL ads for this deleted.... weird, as big as CL is and as far reaching as it is, sold to a guy I know that lives 4 miles from here

well, I didn't know what to ask for it, I see newer (but not brand new by any means) power rakes with asking prices of 3 to 4 times where I listed it at, had to start somewhere..... someone had one like this on CL not long ago "for parts without an engine" and they were wanting around $175.
My biggest problem selling is being in a CL desert. I am on the fringe of 4 CL listing areas, and none really cover this area... I get comments like "too far away" a lot/ even though when I first got what ever item I am trying to sell at any given moment, for most things, I had to go farther than the person would have to come when I go to sell..... I've gone to Wisconsin for things when I am wanting to buy, which is min 2 hours away to closest point WITH good traffic,,,, but having to drive past O'Hare Airport to get there it rarely goes that quick getting there, then sometimes years later I go to sell something and get people a half hour away that show interest then come back with the "too far to go" BS;
I usually look around a bit at other similar things for sale to gauge my start point. And I rarely start higher than the "average", often I start cheaper than anybody else and still don't get any action..... but most often what I see available is ~an hour or so away and if that is to the North, EVERYTHING is much more expensive up there than I could ever wish for on the same thing.....
and unlike most of what I want to sell, of which when I do I tend to "get in a hurry to see it go", in this case on the power rake if I sell it OK if I don't, that's OK too...... I know I couldn't replace it, if I later wanted to, for anywhere near my asking price.

yeah... it drives me nuts when people use distance they have to drive as a bargaining chip to get something cheaper.
Hey if I go to a Walmart 3 hours away I will pay the same price for the same item as I would at either Walmart that is within 10 miles of my house..... right?

Unless you almost give things away, i dont see much being sold on these sites
it does happen though....

Lily's Dad, you aint far from me, and jabelman-- we need to establish a TF Express-- a relay of what each of us wants, from member to member transferring back n forth.... I have gone and picked up tractors for other members, that were for sale in other formats (whether it was member to member, or via Epay, etc) and held them, and hauled them and met the buyer part way between me and where they live, or to another member who then hauled it to relay to the buyer.

a couple of notables were a Sunstar that I picked up not far away from me and met GL Grumpy (hey why aint he here yet?) at a truck stop with it a little ways the other direction from here, and a Ford tractor that I went up a little past Lily's Dad's area to pick up for Texas Deere and Horse, held here over a winter, and dropped off at Trail 95/CRFarnsworth's place (2 different members who happen to be brothers) for them to take it to Daniel's plow day for Texas Deere and Horse to come get and take the rest of the way..... hope that wasn't too confusing.

but I've seen other members post about doing similar things for other members.....

There are a lot of good buys in portland Oregon and seattle, but its across the state. If i was rich i would take 3 days off, rent a big u-haul truck and go get the stuff.

WFM has a Move It forum on the site, maybe something like that can be started here.

75% of the ads on craigslist are scammers. Craigslist does nothing to combat this. 20% of the ads are people wanting way too much money for something that doesn't even work.

5% are legit level headed sellers.

Dont even get me started on 95% of the buyers...
Though I think that is an exaggeration, I get so tired of looking up say, Ariens for instance and getting 84 ad for LED lights. Or look for Dakota's and get maybe a page and a half of legit ads and 10 pages of huyndais Kia's Toyotas and Honda's mostly put there by buy here/pay here fly by night car lots

I guess it depends on where your at as far as CL is concerned. Yes there are dead beats, scammers, etc. on there but for the most part I have had good luck on CL, both buying and selling. I have bought hay, GT's, hunting equipment, vehicle parts, etc. off CL and had no problem. Have sold many tons of hay when I was in the business for horse hay, sold GT's, toys, garden produce you name it.

Lot of the search problems is the search is to general or broad. Ariens Mowers or Ariens Tractors, Dodge Dakota, or Dakota Pickup will get you much better results. Learn to be specific with your search, same on ebay. Can't blame the site for those type situations. Computers cannot see what your thinking.

I'll say it again. Phones for phone calls, computers for internet work. Decent little camera for a heck of a lot less than a smart phone that takes better pictures, download on a computer and upload to any site you want. Problem solved.

Some of the adds on craigslist have a list of "Key words" after the main add. This list is the advertisers attempt to fool or defeat your search narrowing attempts and get their add seen no matter how narrow your search. CL is a self policing form If enough people in your area flag adds that they find deceptive, abusive, or scam, the list gets better. If people stop flagging the bad stuff it will deteriorate quickly.
