New, efficient way to plant. Hehe.

For me any way. Sadly no tractors were used to plant these blue potatoes, but thankfully no expensive gas was used. ! Any way. One row of blue potatoes in this little garden. Normally I would have three rows of any potatoes.

When I was on the farm Dad would use the 4 row planter to plant the potatoes. A stick in the planter wheels so they would not turn would make a nice furrow to plant the potatoes in. Planted by hand, drop them cut side down and step on each on about a foot apart. When all planted a harrow was pulled over the whole patch to cover the seeds. Was "weeded" and hilled with the 4 row cultivator. Had a flat blade shaker type potato plow. Did this for several years till they left the farm while I was in the service.

What ever works Noel. Carol just told me she seen a lady stick a shovel in the ground pried it over dropped the potato in the hole then pulled the shovel out and stepped on it. I seen sweet potato slips dropped on the ground then take a forked stick and push them in the ground then step on them.

That would work too Jim. The potatoes don’t care how you plant them. Hehe. They’ll grow what ever which way.
And I might just try that method tomorrow.

Well couldn’t handle it. Had to use the tractor to plant. Grunt doesn’t burn much.
Retilled the garden. Figured out my rows. 7 rows by 30’. Cut up my sets. Letting them dry while I’m having a snack.
So I’ll have four rows of innovator, two rows of russet and one row of Norland. I don’t normally plant Norland potatoes, but a fella gave them to me this morning. I gave him blue potatoe seed this morning.
I think I’m going to use the tractor to plant. But will see. More pictures later. Hopefully. Phone screwed up. Out of Beepin storage.

All right. About two hours to plant 7, thirty foot rows. Use the middle buster, I made, to make the rows. Then put the potatoes in a box. Use bull low gear and low idle on Grunt and drive beside the row and throw potatoes in and space them 12” to 24”, what ever fits. Then put the hiller on and cover up. Simple as that.
Well the Beepin Pictures won’t load. Might try later if I can fix the Beepin phone.

Done.

I’ve never grown Holland’s before. My favorite are the Yukon Golds but couldn’t get any this year. That’s going to be a nice tater patch. I’m a little worried about our potatoes this year Noel. We’ve been cutting them and let them dry every year before planting. We have also had a lot rotted. This year Carol reminded me the first year we had a garden here was our best for potatoes. She reminded me that we never let them dry that year. I disagreed but she pulled this pic out showing her cutting and planting right away. So I guess time will tell.
