Picked up another MF12G

After telling myself I don't have room for another tractor, this MF12 showed up at an online auction site. IMG_20250504_121556493_HDR.jpgThe wheel weights and deluxe muffler caught my eye. A couple days later I noticed it has the grass deflector also. Auction ended yesterday afternoon I had the highest bid $325. This morning I took the Massey trailer and brought it home.IMG_20250504_121609722_HDR.jpgIMG_20250504_121632937_HDR.jpgSerial number says it is a 1974 modelIMG_20250504_135019395_HDR.jpg. I took it off the trailer drained the oil out and put fresh oil in the engine. The fuel tank was bone dry I put a splash of fuel in the tank. I hook up a jump pack to the starter wire and it started right up. The engine sounds good, next is to drain the transmission fluid and refill. The front tires need replaced both rear tires are holding air. This one will get restored. I want to use this grass shield to make a couple more.IMG_20250504_121619550_HDR.jpg

Nice score, Ted! Very cool you got it to run quickly! I tried to give away one of those steel deflectors a few years ago here and on FB. No one wanted it. That thing was a pain in the @$$ banging into things. It only stayed on the tractor about a month after I got it. Put a "Mudflap" style deflector on the deck. Think I threw it in the scrap pile out back but if I run across it, do you want it?

Yes, I would take it if you find it. I just want one for restoration reasons, not so much for mowing. This one does flip all the way over and lays on the deck out of the way if you do not want to use the deflector.

I pulled the deck out from under the tractor last night. The rear roller is missing due to the holder on the right side being bent along with the bracket needing welded. This deck must be a later version, the mount to the tractor is different and the belt covers are just over the pulleys. My other deck for 10/12 the cover goes over the whole deck.

I am going to work on lining up getting a MF16 this weekend I found on marketplace. It is extremely rough but the price is cheap.

I spotted it in the junk while mowing behind the shop today, Ted. Got a couple pulley covers if you want them too.

When I flipped it over and left it laying on the deck, the clippings managed to find my face and eyes all the time so I built the flap to still deflect down. Obviously, I'm not a restorer so have no use for this stuff. Those pulley covers would pack up with clippings and twigs to the point where I could smell burning. Now that I put grease zirks in the spindles, they would just be in the way to do the lube.

My tractor is a 1975 and your deck is like this one. It is also missing the "skid" on the discharge side. Your tractor has something odd bolted to the mule drive pedal too.

Now an MF14? So much for no more room for tractors---LOL!

DAC I do not need the deck covers, I have a set of each style. The thing bolted to the mule drive I have yet to figure out what it was for, I will end up unbolting it from the pedal. The only thing I can think of is if the PTO is not set correct and keep popping off and they hooked a spring to keep it on.

It is a 16 I will be picking up Saturday. I already have 2 14's, 1 of the 14's has a loader mounted on the tractor, just doesn't want to start. No spark, I am waiting on a set of points.

OK you answered my question about the pulley covers, Ted! My bad on mistaking a 16 for 14. I suffer from CRS.

Looks like that eyebolt may have been used to pull the pedal down harder for some reason. Maybe the belt was a bit too long? The factory spring is clearly visible.
