I might use my old lawnboy push mower this year for grass cutting. I’ve been walkin one hour per day for the last 4 months and feel like I could use it. Get something done and get the walk in.
Any way cleaned it up today and remembered that things had to be greased. It’s been 27 years since it was used full time. Has been used a little to do the ditch and under a tree the odd time for the last few years. I bought it 32 years ago. And it was used when I bought it. So I don’t know how old it is. But I figure it’s about 40 years old. Maybe.
It is assisted drive model. Has two rollers that push on the rear drive wheels to make it go. If you want.
The two drive rollers have a screw in them. Take it out, put grease in, put the screw in and turn until grease comes out around axle shaft. Turn the screw in once or twice a year a half turn or so to lube axles.
The posi rear end has a grease nipple in it. I put one shot in. Don’t want to much in, will only squeeze out when the rear end heats up. I have not greased these things in many years. I also lubed the drive shaft. It wears. Had to bronze it once and file of. Been good ever since. But at the time I bought a new driveshaft, just in case. Never put it in yet. Had all the wheels off and clean shafts, put axle grease on stuff and put them back on.
I sure any of you that has one of these would know all this stuff, just thought I’d mention it.

Didn’t know where to post this. Please move it if need be.

Noel

Those old Lawn Boys are a hard mower to beat. I walk with my dog about 1/2 mile a day out on the road. Do that every morning first thing after breakfast. I do enough walking after that to satisfy my walking wants/needs. Right Knee is sensitive to weather change, like today. Talking rin coming in early in the morning and thunder storms Saturday afternoon.

So, finished her up today. Put fuel in it. Took a little pulling to get it goin. But once goin worked fine. Not bad for a 32 year plus more old mower. Cut nice.
Well see how it goes cutting the grass with it. Still not enough grass to cut yet really. Not good on the back. Being bent over a bit while walking. But will wait for a fresh day.
Did some more wood work today and repaired a bent rim on my daughters car. So, the back was sore before I trued the push mower.

Noel

And some pictures of the bent rim.

Used the old piece of hard wood on the tire/rim trick to get the bead broke.
Saved the daughter some money. Told her to leave some money on the counter for me fixing it.

Hahahaha. Ya right.

My dad is all about the lawn boys. Brick tops...some other one....butter cups...

He has one like that one..I think it was his dads.

I have a couple aluminum (maybe magnesium) deck ones that are about 20 years old. I dont use push mowers now. I used to only have to use one at my old house. Smaller lot.

Our front and back yards have a lot of ins and outs so I use the old alum. deck Wizard with no self propell to go around all the edges, then use the Dixon to mow all the rest.

I think I have one of those still setting out in the Hangar needing the self propelled mechanism repaired. Does your have the plastic carburetor?
If it gets hard to start and low on power clean the muffler out as they build up carbon and get plugged. It is a 2 cycle isn't it?
