Beefed up engine for sure. Big cam. Almost spitin fuel out the tail pipes. Idling at about 1200 rpms. If you call that idling hehe. I was sitting about six car lengths away from it and you could smell the rick fuel mixture. Guy left it running while he was in the store. Burnt a litre of fuel I’d say while he was in the store.
Not sure of year. But would say 68 or 69.

Yup about right 1968 or 1969. GMC Srint or Chevy El Camino

Why Not?
I used to work with a guy that had a 1979 Firebird with a huge blower sticking out the hood and use to do burn outs for people in the parking lot.

Helped sell our companies services too.

Never could figure those El Camino and Ranchero types out. No weight in the back for traction. Great for burning off the tires and they do look nice but trying to put the horsepower to the ground was an ongoing struggle.
 
The companies sold enough they were built for several years. Ford even had a Falcon one.
Intresting how ever Ford started building them and quit.
From 1957 to 1959 the body followed the Fairlane car line. from 1960 production it followed the Falcon line, till near the end and went back to the Fairlane design.

Pick up trucks at the time were rough rideing and got poor fuel milage. I am sure Mom liked the nicer interior when she wore her finest to town on Saturday and had to stop for a couple hundred pounds of chicken scratch. Or as the Assie Lady who wrote Ford about such a car/truck she wanted to wear her finest to church on Sunday and haul the pigs to market on Monday.


GM decided to try to cut into Fords Market in 1959,based on the full sized Impal station wagon platform, was a short lived project with only 2 model years built.

In 1964 they reinterduced it in the Chevell platform till 1977.

In 1978 it was reinterduced again on the GM G body platform. the GMC Sprint was interduced in 1971 but was renamed the Caballenro in 1978. Production ended in 1987.


Studabaker has a Coupe Express model in the mid 1930's.

That PT Cruiser was junk when it left the line. 75K mile life span, from then on a money pit.
 
I dunno about the pt cruiser being junk. The 2.4 was a solid 4 banger. Not a great looking car. My dad had 3 of them. He loved them. He said lots of room and great has mileage.

I also love an el camino. In Australia they have the holden ute. I love those. Pontiac was supposed to bring the holden ute to the us but instead they closed pontiax

The problem is they wouldn't leave the looks alone and would have to doctor it up like they did the T-Bird. That thing was uglier than week old roadkill. They tried doing the same thing with the Camaro and now they are stopping production of them because nobody wants one. The Challenger and Mustangs still Look like they did and sell well.
 
Was a few of the PT's around here for a short time. Rural mail carrier had one and could not keep the dust and rattles out of it. Got rid of it in less than a year. Another guy got one for a road trip of 180+ miles a day for work temp. out of town. Mileage was good but the ride and noise was terrible. Daughter-in-laws Father bought her a used one. Drove it a few months and one day it would not start. He threw over $400 at it and still would not run right and he teaches auto mechanics at a comm. college. They gave the PT to charity groupe to repair of junk. Grocery and mail vehicle, hard surface roads/streets and in town only they may be OK but only at night when no one sees you getting in that ugly thing. :thumbs:
 
built on the same platform, as I remember... never had one, but have had same experiences with them.... know people that loved em and people that couldn't stand them….. seems most that couldn't stand them were people that had never had one.... being FWD would be enough for me to "not" want one. no matter how "good" or "bad" a vehicle, that they may or may not be. I've never owned a FWD vehicle. I'd consider one, if I "had to" have a FWD for some reason or another.....
 
I have nothing against a FWD vehicle. Proven fact one can pull more than one can push. They drive a little different if caught skidding on slick surface but anyone can catch on to that real easy.
 
The FWD vehicles do get around better in the winter. Problem is they don't stop any better and that gets people into trouble.
 
Good equipment can't cure stupid. Worst accidents I have seen in the snow were big 4 wheel drives Don with really nice traction tires. Don
