Picked up a IH 782

Tried to buy it a few years ago and he was way to high. Came down to about half, got him down another $100 so did the deal. Little on the rough side mechanical wise. Tin is all there and straight. Paint is faded. Choke & throttle controls are seized, hydro control don't want to move but that is probably in the linkage from the brake some place. Nothing PB-Blaster won't work on. Need to air up the fronts and replace the rear tires so it will roll onto my trailer. May get it in the next couple days. Blocked in with a loaded equipment trailer right now.

Thanks for the offer. I have one cast that needs a valve put in, which I have and a newer one that needs valves rebuilt.
I used to have the name and address of a gentleman who would rebuild those valves. don't know where it is now.

Haven't taken a pic of it yet. Got to get it dug out first. Possibly in the morning.

I have the info on the guy that rebuilds the valves on those units. He has done 3 pair for me so far. One pair in my 1512 and the other two tractors I sold. The valve I have for the cast iron unit goes in the lower front on the right hand side. My 1512 would free wheel down hill till I stumbled onto the spring, ball and spacer in the cast iron one. Put it in mine and stopped the free wheeling. I bought the last two my Cub dealer could find.

Will try and remember the camera in the morning. Plan is to get some round wheel on it so it will be easier to move around.

Got two round wheels on the back this morning. Forgot the air chuck for the air bomb so didn't go anything with the front. The two front one I was going to put on it both had heavy rim leaks and didn't want to take the time to fix them. 90% sure the fronts on it are shot like the back one are. Don't remember where the yellow rims came from but they sure don't look good on a red tractor, but they are round and hard.

Seat is shot. One headlight is pushed out a ways. Other than that it looks solid and straight. Rear wheel won't turn but a short ways when it is jacked up but will lift it by the hitch to take most of the weight off and drag it out where I can get at it with the trailer. Afraid the paint is gone to far to bring back to a decent red. Probably a repaint down the road. Lot of work between now and then.

Waiting for the Vet right after dinner today so grabbed one of the IH hub caps to clean up. Went over them with fine steel wool to get the majority of the rust and dirt off. Then got a small piece of the cotton polish material and went over them. Didn't turn out to bad. Will get the IH painted down the road some time.

Brought the tractor home this morning. Stripped the sheet metal off and gave it a bath. Looks a lot different now. Both front tires and one rear held air after sitting flat for several years. Can sure tell which side was toward the South by the faded side panel. Have a bunch of caked up crud to dig out from behind the hydro, then some more with the pressure washer. Choke and throttle both move good already. Little damage on the nose top left corner & grill. Have those parts if I need them. Need to get those yellow wheels off though but at least it rolled with them on.

Making progress. PB Blaster got the hydraulic control valve freed up. Works nice and smooth now. Brakes are set up to tight and most of the electrical connections need cleaned. Not sure about the electric fuel valve yet. Probably get bypassed. More of a PITA than useful I have found. Will pull the deck off first thing in the morning to get it out of the road and checked out good. Needs paint bad.

Worked on electrical some yesterday and this morning. Starter relay worked once and quit so replaced that with one I had rebuilt and had on hand. Got the ignition switch to make contact like it is supposed to except for the light circuit. Plug to the switch was in bad shape so cut it off and put on insulated female spade terminals. Bare wires near the brake safety switch so by passed the switch for now, same with the seat switch. Can add them later if I want to. Engines turn over with the key now, have power to the one side of the points. They will be replaced along with the capacitor. Probably not today as it is to get hot this afternoon. Will get some pics later and post. Never remember to have that darn phone with me when working on stuff, like that is what I bought it for.

Spent the morning working on a 16' garage door that decided to really go south yesterday. Cables jumped off the wheels, binds when going up, tore the bracket off the door. Everything I tried or did was wrong so pulled it up with a come along and clamped 2 vice grips on it and walked away. Took the old points our of the Kohler and got the new ones with capacitor installed and gaped. Will check the gap again in the morning, then go to work on getting the gas tank back in and new lines installed. Called a garage door guy to come and fix that stupid 18 yo door.
