Being it's a 1969 it's hard to tell because JD used the same type numbers as the green and yellow tractors. If it's been restored, they should have photo documentation prove it was originally a Custom Color tractor. Does he have a picture of the seat pan? It should be stamped out of a textured...
Wow Larry ,it really sounds good and seems to operate well. Love the electric start option you have there. I may have to use that method on some of my pull start engines.
Noel, it uses a 2 post coil and it fires both cylinders at the same time. Lots of guys have used Harley coils when they're oem coil dies because of the cost of the Harley coil is cheaper than a Kohler or Onan coil.
I believe that the main jet is up on the side of the carb body on these. I've got one somewhere in storage that I can try to find. If he could give us a picture of the complete carb, it would help. He hasn't said whether he's getting fuel from the pump while cranking. How did the bowl look when...
Yeah Noel, I think it's set about right for hilling when the tators are just coming up but it's closed up too much for a fully developed plant to pass in between the plow bottoms.
Sure is doing a great job!!
Don't worry about that air bubble, most all of those filters have some air trapped in them unless they are installed straight up and down. I'd take the gas line loose at the carb and turn the engine over to see if the fuel pump is pumping. You can also pour a little gas down the carb or use carb...
If you happen to have some Sea Foam,
Mix up some in your gas and run it though the carb. It may save you from having to pull the carb and clean it. I've had good luck cleaning up carbs that were acting dirty by adding it to the gas.
All of your closed frame 100-300 series attachments will work on the 317. The series 1 engine is a good engine, they just didn't have a fully pressurized oil system and had a oil starvation problem if they ran on a side hill for any length of time.
Both the series 1 & 2 KT17's were good engines. The series 1 had a bad oil starvation problem if it was run on a side hill for any length of time. I have both series engines in JD 317's and they both run great. I just don't get sideways on any hill with the series 1.
That's a good deal at...
Simplicity at one time was owned by Allis Chalmers and sold tractors branded as Allis Chalmers, Simplicity, Home Lite, Montgomery Wards and J.C. Penny's. It's the same tractor with different paint.
Not a true Bolens as it was built by MTD after they bought Bolens. It's the same machine me as a TroyBuilt model, just paint change.
Also it's a lawn tractor, not a ground engaging heavy duty garden tractor.
It will make a decent lawn mowing machine.
