This belonged to my grandfather, the only vehicle he ever bought brand new. Being a body man, he bought most of his vehicles wrecked and fixed them up. He parked this in 1988 with 18,000 miles on it, and it sat there until 2 years ago when we sold the garage it was in. Unfortunately the garage wasn’t in very good shape. Our friend/neighbor bought this and the 69 El Camino that was also in there, I don’t have any pictures of that one right now. It would have been nice to keep one or both of them in the family, but I don’t really have the time, money, or garage space for a project like that, and no one else was interested. It went to the next best place. He is a car collector with probably about 20 other classics right now, and has probably had well over 100 vehicles over the years. He got it running and is working on the cosmetics now. This one had a cover on it in the garage and the body stayed pretty nice. Frame is rusty, but solid, some of the chrome is pitted, decals peeling. The paint is still nice. He had to pull the whole interior out to clean out the mold. Overall though, it’s a nice survivor. The 69 doesn’t look quite as good and will need a lot more work, but it’s salvageable. That is his next project. Last week he brought it over to our shop so my dad could help him change the Super Sport decals and stripes. The passenger side is done, now he needs to peel the old ones off the drivers side and get that ready. He only wanted to do one side at a time to make sure we got everything back in the right spot. He also got all new emblems for it. After that it will be ready for its first car show later this month.
