A MF 12H to add to the herd.

I had been looking for some MF wheel weights off and on for the past couple of months, Friday I came across this MF12H on facebook here in Des Moines for $500. I really was not looking for another tractor to buy. Tractor not only has a set of MF split wheel weights, it came with a tiller with the extension kit, mowing deck, and snow blower, and to top it off it has the factory power lift. The tractor does run but the engine was replaced with a Tecumseh OH140. The rear tires wont hold air and may not be good enough to put in tubes. The sheet metal needs some work and the one-eyed headlight will come of the top of the hood and the correct lights installed. It will be a long restore project. Nice. When I bought my MF 12G it came with deck, tiller and extension, snow thrower, cab and still had the switch I the dash for the electric lift. But the electric lift part was not there. I use the dash switch for my winch operated loader. I made the loader.
I paid $700. Been a great tractor.
Hope you have fun with it.

I'd have paid $500 all day long for that rig. I can't get enough wheel weights, I sold a set one time and it still haunts me lol. I do have 3 sets now though. The tiller looks good, the extension is nice to have, only makes sense to have it the same width as the tractor. It speeds things up, and that power lift I'm sure makes it easy to lift.

The closest I've come to a power lift is a "kit" sitting here pulled from a tractor but the cylinder (sorry, "electrohydraulic actuator lol) is busted and the fork has been booger welded back together. I've also got SOME of one of the older kits NOS, just some hardware, pulleys, hoses etc. Those were cool would be a great fit for my 66 MF10. As far as the newer setup, I'm on the hunt for a cylinder at the very least.

Looks like a lot of potential there @esbbent ! Give us an update when you can. I want to say thanks again for selling me those deck parts! Having them saved my butt last weekend!

I don't have much of an update other than the tractor has been taken apart waiting to be power washed and then cleaned up for paint.
I had a Ford 8n show up which needed some minor work done. The Ford is not mine, I was paid to do it. Helps to have extra money to afford to redo the MF12. I am off of work at one job Thursday and Friday which will give some time to get back to the MF12.
DAC glad those parts worked out for you. If you come across any other parts needs for a MF10/12 let me know. Ted

Good find. Its amazing how some folks just add a light anywhere. I've seen those weights for the massey's go for $200. Keep us posted!

If I run into needing more parts, I sure will get ahold of you, Ted! I was hoping to do a full refurbish on the deck after mowing season but a spindle bit the dust. Got me going again fast having the parts.

Having some extra income is always good for helping to fund projects---just so the time doing the side jobs doesn't take all the time needed for the project. Seems like I have always been when I have the money, I don't have the time and when I have the time I don't have the money!

Same here seems like time & money just can't get together at the same time

I usually have the time but seem to always be short on the money end.

Progress and pictures-I worked on cleaning up the transmission and rear axle assembly to get ready for paint. The plan is to get the transmission and frame painted then put both of them on my work table bolted together. This way I can start with the items on the frame and work my way up. here is the frame cleaned up from pressure washer.IMG_20190628_134038339.jpgIMG_20190628_134048753.jpgThe front axle still needs some more cleaning especially the wheels. The transmission I drained out both the transmission fluid from the hydro along with the gear oil in the axle. I could not find a replacement filter anywhere for the transmission, so I took the old one and cleaned it up with brake clean and reinstalled. I found one filter listing on line of a dealer that may have had one and sent them an email but they were out of stock. :( Here are a couple of pictures of the transmission and rear axle with a coat of primer on them. I will put another coat or two before the Massey grey.IMG_20190628_134102857.jpgIMG_20190628_134116186.jpg

Looking good. I have a MF12H packed in boxes blasted & primed ready for assembly. I've rebuilt four Gt's. I think the massey has more parts than any I've done. I seen a guy paint the center of his wheels red. He printed off a circle on adhesive paper used to mask off the center when he sprayed the silver. Can't wait to see the rolling chassis. Keep us posted.

This project got put on hold for a week or two. This morning my youngest daughter was on her way to school this am when her cavalier quit running. It was still here in town so I went to see what the issue with the car. It would turn over but not start but it did not sound right, I checked and it had plenty of fuel pressure. I checked with my one boss to see if I could borrow his car trailer but ended up borrowing his car dolly and hauling it home. After unloading the car and winching it up the drive way, I pulled the ignition module off the top of the valve cover and then pulled the valve cover. Found a broken timing chain, I have been working on getting the head off the engine to see if there is any damage to the valves or pistons. I will have to finish it up tomorrow the heat and humidity had done me in for the day.

A short update, I pulled the head off to clean it up and to look over the valves real close. I did not see any sign of the valves hitting the pistons and they all opened and closed. I did do the spray down with brake clean on the valves and none of them leaked. Tonight after both jobs I ended up putting the head back on and torqueing it down. Tomorrow the plan will be to get at least the new balance chain guide and tensioner back in and if there is time the timing chain and guides.
