The Allis Chalmers 7196H is back together !
Most of you probably remember that I started with a 710,3 speed with a busted transaxle and a 912 hydro that the previous owner mangled the front frame on.
The the frame forward is 710,the bevel box back is 912 hydro.
Then I put a very nice 320000 series cast iron 16 hp Briggs in it. A late model factory magnatron ignition and gear drive starter engine.
The engine wouldn't run and kicked back hard.
I pulled it back out and started pulling it apart. Brand new valves but not adjusted so I pulled the valves, filed the stems until they were in adjustment.
The mag was rubbing the flywheel so I adjusted it too.
Turns out the flywheel key was sheared.
So I replaced it.
Test fired the engine on the ground. It started right up an purred.
So I put the tin on and threw it back in the tractor and ran it awhile. It's running in the pictures.
I'm liking the long, lean look with the skinny wheels and tires.
The 710 used these skinny wheels and tires so I kept the original fronts and put a set of 8.50s on the r rear off a A/C 410 parts tractor.
I do need a starter head plate. The one on this starter is worn out of round around the bendix shaft and let's the shaft walk or move around.
The cast iron engines use a different head plate from other Briggs starters.
