I brought home this 1965 Springfield 65TE-10 Today. The engine is a Kohler K241AS. If the engine and gearbox have no mechanical problems it will not be a difficult restoration. I believe it will be a good looking tractor painted back the original bright red and white.00D0D_eitHmP60f7U_600x450 Springfield 10.jpg
The rear fenders/seat pan, hood, and grill are fiberglass and none are broken. However, there are a couple of small chunks broken out of the front edge of the hood. I have had very little experience repairing fiberglass so that will be a learning experience.

I got it off the trailer today. None of the tires will hold air so tomorrow I plan to remove all four wheels and restore the wheels with fresh white paint and new tires all around and new bearings in the front, so I can easily move the tractor when I need to.
Then I will do what is needed to hear it run for the first time.

They are pretty tractors when painted. They are also uniquely engineered.

Nice find.

You don't often see those models I had one if I remember correctly it was a 64 should have kept it since I have not seen one like it again.

fiberglass isn't too bad to work with, just wear gloves! I am still laughing at the ad on ebay I saw today, dude selling a mid 70s vette, said no rust or dents!

I bought it in 2015 Jason, and sold it to a gentleman from Virginia in 2017 after placing it on Ebay I actually was browsing there when it sold guy drove up to get it for his wife i think she had to have it lol

New job, new truck, new hobbies.
I texted him, he said congrats on saving another one and his we're all still for sale

After some closer look I realize that the slight damage to the fiberglass on mine has been caused when previous owners allowed the hood to tilt forward and hit the edge of the grill.
I also now know that the original colors were not red and white like I thought but almost like Kubota orange and white. Ok, I will go back with that. I scored some like-new rear tires off of a very late model junked out John Deere at the local scrap yard for it and went to Harbor Freight and bought one of the mini tire changers that I have been meaning to get. I borrowed some narrower front tires and wheels, 4.80s I believe, from another project for the front and they look so good on it I believe I will change to them for the front.
I have the Carter model N carb rebuilt now and new battery and all the battery cables, ignition switch, and coil installed. I will clean out the gas tank or install a temporary tomorrow and crank it up.
As soon as I get a few of my project tractors "finished" I plan to let my 8 year old and 10 year old grandsons pick the two that will be theirs. I have a feeling one of their names will go on this tractor. Of course the tractors will stay at Papa's house as the boys have no place to ride them at home. Another reason they will be wanting to come to Papa's house every Saturday.

I've been on the hunt for one of the later Springfields. I had a 61 vertical shaft model 36. Never could find the horizontal shaft, later models.

Great find!!

Eric
