Went to the Weldon, Iowa auction today. There were probably 30 +/- garden tractors offered. Most of the tractors had a certain amount of cobble to them and that hurts value I know but some of the nice stuff still didn't bring squat.
There was a right nice Crud Cadet 122 with deck, painted up nice with a boat seat and ag lugs on rear. Auctioneer worked pretty hard to get bids. I think it sold for $225. A 1966 Cadet 104 that was a straight old original tractor brought $75. Front tires were flat but otherwise it looked good. There were 4 Shaw riding tractors. First one offered was an "R5" with good tires. Hadn't been run in years but been inside. Someone started it at $200 and that was it.

Second one was an "R12" I believe with a 2 cylinder Wisconsin. It had a MTD hood but otherwise not bad. Rear tires were new. $375.

Next was another "R5" and it looked identical to the first. $225
Then a round hood Country Squire was next. Shroud was off the engine but rest looked good. Had hand brakes. A guy started it at $150 and no one else bid.
Then the last Shaw, an "R8" I think it sold in the $250 area.
All these tractors ran years ago and had just sat in the shed for quite some time.
Also of mention was a MagnaTrac crawler loader. They said it would run with a battery but the battery in it was so old it wouldn't take charge. [I'd have bought a $20 battery but what do I know?] A bidder on the phone from Chicago-land started it at $1000. Someone in the crowd bid $1050. Guy on phone bid $1250. On site bidder bid $1300. Phone bidder bid $1500 and its headed to Chicago. Funny thing was my boss was at the sale. He asked me before they got to the crawler what it'd bring. I said $1500. So as soon as it sold I found him in the crowd and asked "What did I say that'd bring? Huh??. Sometimes you just get lucky.

It was hot! hot! hot but a good breeze all day. I wanted to get a Shaw and could have hauled one of the smaller ones with my lil red Dodge pickup but since I don't even have room for what I already own I didn't bid. They probably all got bought by flippers and will be on Ebay next week. If that's the case someone will quadruple their investment.
Of course I forgot my camera again.
