Brinly 18 Trailer Repair

I got this from a friend a couple years ago and just stored it until now. Both tires are cracked only one holds air. I’m going to search for a couple of used ones. It’s got a few dents to straighten out and a little surface rust nothing major. This is an 18 cubic feet model the label on the tongue says the 10 will hold 1200lbs The part that describes the 18 model has been torn off. It has a one inch axle and really built very solid. I was going to pull the axle but it’s in there to stay. I squirted some atf/acetone down the axle seem where it meets the trailer to cover any rust I can’t reach. The tilt latch was rusted to where it didn’t spring back when I let it go. It’s fine now after cleaning and oiling it a little. I’m hopping to get it painted this week.

Nice size trailer. A lot of garden tractors use those tires on the front wheels.

That’s what I’ll be looking for. My other trailer that broke down I put tractor rear wheels and tires on it I think 18”or 20” that was nice for that one. I need good ground clearance for the terrain I travel to get wood.

Cub Cadet GT's will have the wheel/tire combo your looking for. I have swapped out two trailers I have for those.. Pull easier and stay on top better.

My wheels are in good shape I just need the typical 16/8.50/8 tires. I might try to see if the 18” would fit. With the factory 16” I have about 2” of clearance to the tub.

Well after life holdups and waiting for a guy to look for some tires I need but never got back to me it’s finished. I wire brushed it primed then painted. The tires were slightly cracked but wanted to get this done. I bought two new tubes and after dealing with a small thorn that punctured one of them finally got that fixed. I sand blasted the wheels one was in bad shape on the inside from water getting in a flat tire. This sit up against a barn for awhile before I got it then it sit with me a couple more years. I’m happy with it.

And I like the use of that old bumper jack..usually they end up in the scrap heap.

My wife said it looks like a coal or train car. Since I model the B&O RR in the 50’s era I thought it would look neat dark blue with some RR graphics on it. Maybe another day.
