It is basically a 190 gas Allis Chalmers.

Yeah, A/C made those out of the D-19s also. Seen one of those a few years back. It was a Diesel..

Any idea what they where used for.

Yes, they pulled a machine that had a revolving screen deck in it and it would scoop up the top 4 to 6 inches of sand on the beach and remove all the trash out of the sand and the sand would fall thru the screen and fall back down on the beach where it came from.
