Last couple of summers I been having poor results with the garden but the before that it did great so I'm thinking a cover crop this year. What I'm looking at is winter wheat or cereal rye. Can it be planted with a broadcast spreader ? My garden is about a 1/4 of acre any ideas how many pounds of seed I would need ?

I wouldn't think it would be whole lot different than planting grass. Would you have access to a cultipacker? That would push things down and smooth things out...

I’ve done the same thing, ish...

I was looking for seat time last year, so I decided to plant some wheat like you’re looking to do.

All I did was plow, disk the crap outta it and then just spread seed, made a pass with the dethatcher that’s cover seed. Walk away.

Broadcast the seed after discing before a good rain always worked good for me.
