It has been sitting in the basement for about 2 years. I don’t use it much anymore, but I try to get it out and run it at least once a year, last year I didn’t. I charged the battery and put some fresh gas in and it started right up like it always did. I put air in the tires and topped of the hydro fluid (it leaks bad) and took it for a ride. I will clean it up, wax it, and probably cut grass with it later or tomorrow. Then it will probably go back to being a shelf for another year.

I need to do that to my 782 but have no idea when. Got started on replacing the engine in the SxS but haven't touched it in 2 months. Garden, grass, weeds and heat all got in the way. Several years ago I could work in the heat with a fan blowing but not any more.

Great looking Cub! Fix that hydro leak and use the heck out of it! Thanks for the pics.

Every time I have it out, I say I should use it more but I don’t. It’s a nice tractor to mow with. Now it is in my tent shed so it should get more use.

I changed the oil and gave it a quick spray wax, then cut grass with it yesterday. It did great.

I never posted the story on this one. My grandfather bought it new in 1989 after his MF7. He used it until 2006, one day he was cutting grass, and it just stopped moving. He got a new Husqvarna, and gave this to my dad. It was just out of hydro fluid, my dad fixed it and we used it weekly until about 5 years ago. It has 913 hours on the meter, but that was not put on when new. I would say it is closer to 1,000, maybe more. Now I mostly cut grass with my older Cubs, so this doesn’t get much use anymore. But, every time I get it out, I still enjoy using it.

I had a 1320 many years ago. Splines on the hydro stub shafts worn enough that the couplers would slip after a few months of use. Got tired of replacing couplers, so sent it down the road.
For a low quality lawn tractor, this has served us well. The only issue we had was a bolt came loose inside the rear one time. Kind of a funny story now, back then I was terrified. I was going up a slight hill and heard a clunk, and it took off backwards down the hill. I don’t know if I didn’t think to hit the brakes or if they weren’t working, or why I didn’t bail. I was pretty young at the time. It rolled about 75 feet and then eventually the mower deck caught a big rock and stopped it about a foot from a tree. It probably wasn’t going that fast but it felt like about 100 mph. I was never happier to be off a tractor than after that.

My dad took it apart, put the bolt back in with loctite, and it has been fine ever since. I think we put an ignition coil on it once too. Besides that, just normal wear parts.

Great story and a couple of nice tractors
