Engine swap,maybe

Thinking about doing a engine swap on the put together A/C 7916H.
Thinking about pulling out the very nice 16 hp cast iron Briggs and replacing it with a Kohler K301 12 hp engine.
The why is this.
The tractor is in great shape overall and a strong machine but not necessarily a keeper for me.
I do want to keep the engine that I have in it now.
So with the engine swap I can keep it or sell it if I decide to send it down the road.
I need to get in the shop and swap the big oil pan onto the K301 and get most of the Deere extras off of it such as all the extra shielding that won't fit under hood of the A/C.

what oil pan is on the 301 now? what are your plans for it if you put the big pan onto that engine?
Dodge it has a small pan on it now.
It's out of a 212 Deere.
The nice thing about Deere engines is that although they use the small pan,the block is cast with the mounts for the big pan. Other small pan engines are not.
If I put the big pan on it,I will put it in this A/C.
Still debating though.
I have plenty on my plate for now anyway so I'm not sure I want to get into that anytime soon.
When I can get tractor time I have 3 other tractors already on my "put it together" list.

Might be easier to sell it in it's original condition and keep your eyes open for another engine like the one you want to keep.
Cvans if I put a 12 hp Kohler in it,it would be closer to original. It came from the factory with a 10 hp Kohler in it.
I have a 16 hp Briggs in it right now.
But...it also came from the factory with a 3 speed trans. It now has a hydro rear and bevel box out of a 900 series in it now.
So either way, although it has a nice original look, its not gonna be. lol
While I'm sort of a cast iron Briggs nut and overall, the Briggs that I put in this is fairly hard to come by around here.
This one is a factory magnatron ignition, internal alternator and bendix drive starter setup.
While really enjoy the starter generator setup and don't mind points at all, this factory setup is pretty scarce.
This engine is also in very nice shape internally.
Being a cast iron Briggs collector of sorts, even if the tractor goes I will most likely keep the engine.

When I put the K341 out of a JD I got an oil pan that was from a WH. The only difference between it and it one that is on the K301 I took out of the 7012 was the oil drain. The drain was in the side instead of the bottom.

There is an older 12hp B & S on Ft Wayne CL now.

Rad thank you but I probably have plenty of Briggs sitting around at the minute, unless a model 23,Model 19 or 19D,or a 32000 series comes up,then I'm on it.
lol
The nice thing about the Deere engines are they are about the only small pan blocks cast with the "ears" or mounts to mount a big pan. Most small pan blocks won't take a big pan.
