Ferguson tractor trouble.

Jumpins I’m having quite a time with tractors lately. Got to look at the tea20 Ferguson tractor for the anti freeze leak. Looked like the thermostat gasket was leaking the other day at the parade I didn’t get to go in. So today I let it run and the water pump is leaking and not the gasket. But I’ll replace it too, if I can find a water pump. Figures, Plow match I go in, with the Ferguson, is less than three weeks away.

Got a pump ordered. Hope it’s right. Be here Thursday. Hehehehe. Any way $160.00 or so. That’s the pump, shipping and taxes.

While there at the MF dealer, I checked on the MF 16 key switch part number. Says number changed, but can get it. But, $66.00 just for the switch. Then shipping and taxes. Jumpins.

Well well well. You would think that if you bought a new part, ya could go home with it and just put it on, but noooo, had to modify the cotter pin holding the pulley/fan mount, so the pulley would fit on. I had went back to the dealer to see what they wanted me to do or them to do, before I touched it, and have no warranty. So got that fixed. Went back home. So then I tried the pulley and fan on new pump with new bolts to make sure that all fit. Didn’t fit. Could get one bolt in, second was hard to put in, next two wouldn’t go in. Centre to centre hole spacing was off. Jumpins. Back to the dealer I go. I didn’t really want to drill or wallo out the holes in the fan blade. So they suggested that or would get another pump. It was my call. Figuring new pump would be the same, I said I’ll do some thing with it. So I ended up taking the old fan/pulley mounting coupling off the old pump and putting it on the new pump. So there’s a days Beepin around to get the part useable.
So pump is on motor now, will see how much farther I get before something else goes haywire.
Quite the professional way to put the drain hole in the bottom from the factory. !

And there’s the reason why you don’t use silicone for gaskets on a engine. Someone before me had this apart. There was no gasket on the thermostat housing. All orange silicone.

When I pulled the engine out of June Bug there was that red or orange silicone squeezed out around the water pump. Wonder how much is in the radiator and heater core. I think some people are under the impression that they have to use the whole tube for each gasket. :mad:
 
Don't know why I missed this from clear back last August, but glad you got that figured out, Noel!

Back in about 1984, we had gotten a Holley 750 carb from a guy in a pinch when we had one broken in a crash. Bolted it on and went racing again. Headers were glowing red hot. Didn't want to melt down the engine so we signaled the driver to bring the car in and loaded it up, done for the night. The next morning I fired the car up and climbed up on the engine where I could look down the carb, suspecting that there was something causing a very lean fuel mixture. There was a "jelly" looking substance dribbling out of the squirter nozzles. I pulled the carb and took it apart. Some moron had used clear silicone on the gaskets and accelerator pumps! Got real lucky it didn't destroy the engine!
