Found these on the side of the road with a free sign

An old reel mower and a wheelbarrow. I saw the guy putting them out in the morning, but I didn’t have time to stop. I figured they would be gone by the time I was coming home, but they were still there. The wheelbarrow is in good shape, some rust inside the tub, but not rotted through. The mower is pretty rusty, but it works. It definitely needs the blades sharpened, and I might paint it. It is made by a company called Great States.

Reel mower is cool. I know some people still use them and like to collect them. My grandparents had one they used as a lawn decoration in their landscaped area. When I was 8 or so I took it out and pushed it across the yard and it still worked.

We have a few hills here that are too steep to cut with a tractor. I was thinking this might work nice to cut them rather than the weedwacker. If not, it might become a lawn ornament.

Didn't they sharpen them but putting valve grinding compound on the cutter bar and turning the reel while slightly adjusting the clearance? Seems I remember Dad doing that on our gas powered real mower.

Sharpening kit is only $20. Manual Reel mowers are suited best to smooth ground...think putting greens. My father had a 5hp chain driven Jacobson 36" reel mower,,,it would cut on any terrain. I tied a wagon to it and rode around many years ago

Reel mowers won't cut tall grass. Won't handle much over 3/4 the height of the reel itself or the tall stuff just gets layed down and slides beneath it.

Today I found this Snapper push mower. It runs but the deck is rotted. The two pieces of wood are holding the motor up. I’ll have to pull the motor off to see if the deck is worth repairing. If not, I may just save the good parts and scrap the rest.

I picked up a free bagger setup yesterday. I believe it’s off a newer Cub Cadet since the guy had one out for sale a few days ago. I’m going to see if it’s close enough to make it work on my 1440. I think all of the parts are there. If it doesn’t work, I’m only out the time to try it.

I found another free push mower. 22” Weedeater. I didn’t have much time to play with it, but the motors not locked up, so I put a little gas in the tank and pulled the rope a few times. It didn’t start, but hopefully after I clean the carb it will run. I already have a JD push mower, so if I can get this running I’ll sell it in the spring.

There was also a license plate that will look nice on the wall in the garage, a bucket of c clamps, an extension cord, and a good wire brush, and whatever that last thing is. Anyone know? It is about an inch thick.

That looks like some kind of a winch gear. It's a big one looks like. Can never have too many c-clamps!

Maybe. I looked at it closer, the other side is flat, and it looks like something was glued to it. I’m thinking maybe just part of some decoration or something.

I poured a little gas in the carburetor on the push mower, and it started. It sounds good, but smokes bad. The oil may be a little overfilled. I’ll drain a little out and run it for a while and see if it clears up.
