I picked this up Saturday, believe to be a 2002 3184, 18 hp Kohler Command, all hydrostat, shaft driven, 775 hrs. My son's friend said he was tired of it. The story is he had it worked on, fuel pump replaced twice, but it would stop running after 15 or 20 mins, he said like vapor lock.
I rolled off trailer, checked oil and figured I would have to jump pack it. Nope, hit button and it spun over. A couple small shots of giggle juice and it started and ran. It did have a noticeable lifter tick, but after a couple starts, it has quieted down. Does have a miss, maybe needs plugs, but also has old fuel.
Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but everything seems to work, does mow decent.
I have a buddy that may have a parts tractor, he said he may have extra spool so I can add maybe a 3pt and he may give me the hydraulic front snow plow.

Here is video of the walk around

Not sure what I plan to do with it, but I saw a video of one with a loader and I've always wanted to build a Buford bucket. I think it may handle that. I was going to put one on my FF, but it is so unreliable of late.

You did good Marty! Engine sounded good on the video! Should be a good workhorse or a money maker if you flip it!

Is a Buford bucket like a Johnny Bucket?

DAC
Buford bucket is like a 1/2 FEL 1/2 johnny bucket. Instead of mounting on frame in middle of tractor, the uprights are in the front. These were specifically built for the JD 300 and 400 series, but mine will also have taller uprights for higher lift.

I built a Buford style bucket loader for my old 318 a number of years ago. It was very handy at that time (I had just bought a new house). I sold the loader a year or so ago to a fellow who seemed like he planned to put it to good use. I LOVE building things from old scrap that I collect! My wife hates that (but loves me anyway)! I still have the 318 with mower deck (although I don't use it regularly). I DO still use it to plow snow (when we get enough to plow) I now do most of my mowing with a newer JD 262. Steve

Thanks, I think I've decided to modify a craftsman "johnny bucket" style scoop and mount it on the cub with a hudro lift, maybe use electric actuator for the dump. I will probably then build a Buford bucket/mini loader on my FF24 or my MF1855 (if I ever get it running).

Does the CC still cut out after 15 or so mins? Or did you fix that?

I thought it was fixed, but I mowed and it still cut out after 15 mins. The filter looked like it had a bunch of junk and I saw some stuff in tank. I removed the seat, unbolted the rear fenders enough to lift them. I figured out I could remove the rear hitch plate and slide tank out. The fenders have 2 bolts inboard in a spot almost impossible to get to so I opted for the rear plate removal.
I ended up finding a bunch of algae type garbage in the bottom of the tank, nasty stuff. I haven't had time to get it cleaned and back together. It will get a good flush, new gas line and filter.

You need skinny arms and triple jointed to get to these boogers.

This was gas I poured out and the junk inside you can see how much as this is a 5 gal bucket.
