What they ask and what they expect to get may not be the same tho.... I find that whatever price I put on a kijiji ad I can expect to get alot of offers at 50% or less... so if I ask $1800 offers from kijiji users will be $900 or less.... where as on facebook I'll usually get offers much closer to my asking price... eg: if I ask $1800 I'll probably sell the tractor reasonably quickly for $1500-$1600.

Kijiji is notorious for low ball offers... and you have to allow for that in the asking price

My STX38, I bought off the people that sold me the house, I paid $800. That was 11 years ago.
The rest of my tractors, I bought as non runners, most I paid for any of them was $200. Mostly it was people that were trying to clean up their junky yards/sheds etc.
I have sold a few for around $500, running.
I like buying non runners, you take a chance, but usually its something simple. If its something major, you can always part it out to get your money back.

As for your prices Noel, they do seem pretty high. I guess things cost more on the island.

This is the time of the year I buy lawn equipment like crazy ,I buy all the $25 to $100 lawn tractors I can find because come spring they are all $300 to $600 machines or they are valuable parts for the shop,I sell lots of used parts .Its a nice option for the customers and I actually make more when they go with a used part,Going through my book I keep on every piece of equipment I sell I have sold over 30 lawn and garden tractors this year.In my book I each piece of equipment has its own page with purchase prices and all repairs needed with price of parts installed and time to get ready to sell,Some are quite involved where as others like an Echo chain saw I just sold for $100 was literally just put gas in it and wipe it down so it looked nice,I paid $1 at an auction.Currently prices are still a bit high for the most pert but come january they really get cheap,Now that is for lawn tractors,Non running garden tractors here are $200 on up and a running JD 210 in decent shape will bring $600 to $1,000.The restored one I just got in a couple weeks ago I will ask $1,400 for next spring and probably get around $1,200 but it is really sharp!

I have a good friend of mine who restores old john Deere garden tractors and when he is done they are really nice and absolutely correct,He has a 140 with the tiller and deck which are all restored too and are beautiful,He is wanting $1,200 for all.I will let ya know if he gets it sold.He usually does and for a good price. On this machine I think he is a bit low but he also just wants to get out of doing it anymore

People complain a lot about prices. But I bet if he restored it properly and brought it back to as near new as possible he isnt making money on it.

No he wouldnt be,He did get it bought cheap enough ($160 ) but he is an old guy ,82 If I remember correctly and really has nothing else to do.He and his wife worked together on them , If the tractor needed anything it was bought new and installed,He was real good at rebuilding the engines on them also. She did a lot of the detail sanding and work for him,He cant see as good as he used to.He had a small heated and air conditioned shop and they spent most of their time together out there,,,,Unfortunately she passed away about 2 months ago.She was a great lady and I really liked her.She was a match for him and his comedy,They would both have you rolling on the floor laughing and also would keep you on your toes.I couldnt tell you how many tractors they restored,(All John Deere)and then they would sell it and on to the next one,Sometimes he made a killing but most times I suspect he broke even if that,He has No interest in being in the shop anymore which I can understand and wants to have an auction next spring. He asked me to do the auction for him and I accepted,

I was selling numerous things I no longer needed when i was recovering from back surgery and wearing a TSLO. Everything sold at my asking price, not one person dickered!
Maybe I should put TSLO on and have a yard sale:thumbs:
