Getting my paps tractors going

I don't believe I have posted here but last fall my grandfather gave me his four tractors he still had from farming. 2 Farmall H's, a Farmall M and a Farmall F20. The 1 H and the M are tractors he farmed with while the other H and the F20 were just part of his collection. The H just needed a good battery charge and it was off and running however the M required quite an extensive servicing and the removal of some homemade cab pieces that were starting to be detrimental to the Tractor health. After pulling it out of the shed in the middle of the summer I finally have the m to where it is running and functioning and cleaned up again. The only thing I really have left to do is to remount the hydraulic control valve and two put the oil cup back on the oil bath air cleaner. However the clamp is missing for the air cleaner so I need to get one first. Also I want to get the rims painted the proper silvery color on the back like they should be.

Some before of the M.

Two after of the M.

And a short video of it running after about 3 years of not running and 25 years of doing ANY farm work.

Yes it is bigger. Thank you for the offer though. I have an idea where to get one. Just need to do it.

Too bad. It looks like the cab was well made in it's day. It's really special when you have your ancestor's equipment.
He did a decent job making it work on there but it was not thought out all that well. His door was an afterthought and he made it from a large piece of plexi glass that he hinged at the top and to get in and out you had to prop it with a stick and sorta shimmy down the steps between it and the cab. It was not a good fit and didn't really keep cold out that well and in an attempt to keep it warm he put the old heat houser on the tractor which then had to be dealt with to get in and out. It was a nightmare to deal with in use. Since he had made it from wood and scrap angle iron the welds all were failing and the wood was so bad when I got it from his shed to ours that the roof fell out on me.

Glad you got some heritage pieces. They will mean more every year.

the patina looks great on that, what was your process of bringing out the color? did you clear it?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Not been on in a few weeks. First off it was power washed after the "before" pictures were taken. Then I took some cleaner and a red Scotch Brite pad to the tin to get the loose rust and "pink" color paint off. Then I wiped it with a mix of PB Blaster and motor oil. One of pap's old tricks. After sitting out in the rain overnight 2 weeks ago it is not as bright anymore but it is not pink anymore either. Good enough for me for now. I new the oil wouldn't last but thought maybe some of it would "soak" into the paint. I'm sure it doesn't but it sounds good.

Brings back fond memories, remembering all my Dad's tractors he had in his lifetime, an H, a Super H, a 504, a 656, 966, a 986 red power, and a utility tractor that I think was a 454. I still love the old Farmall's.
