I've been working on S5 one of my Suburbans it was a ST16 but the Tecumseh OH160 was just plain wore out when I got the tractor it would start and run but man did it smoke the seller said it only smokes at idle when you speed it up it doesn't smoke Oh ya he was right it smoked at idle really smoked got it warmed up and gave it full throttle and yes the smoke seemed to go away well the exhaust was hot enough to hide the smoke but it used oil like crazy went from the full mark to add oil in about 40 minutes. So I had this nice running 18 hp B&S oppose twin decided install it got it installed and that made a nice tractor but the B&S also had lots of hours and used oil but I watched it close so not to run it out of oil well in Sept 2017 I was mowing and the tractor stopped dead suddenly killed the engine restarted the engine no go engine would die when the clutch was released. So this fall I decided to overhaul the 18 hp B&S and found another transaxle , I think a bearing failed in the transaxle finally got the trans to roll but at times there was grinding noise and it rolled rough then would clear up and sound ok and roll smooth. So I got the replacement transaxle installed that is a job and the overhauled engine in the tractor today I pretty much got it done, the hood and grill still need to be installed, started the engine and drove it around its working good100_0241.JPG100_0247.JPG100_0259.JPG100_0261.JPG100_0283.JPG

I see you added motor mounts to the LH side to offset the engine. I have an ST/16, was wondering what would fit in there. I have a 16 HP Onan that needs some TLC, might look into putting it in there. Time will tell.

Good Morning Kenny that would work, but I'm not a big fan of Onan's I have another Suburban that had a 16 hp Onan in it I removed it and installed a 16 hp V twin B & S an that is a nice tractor now. Ya I welded some 2" angle to the frame and it works good

The Frame for the Onan had an offset mount from the factory, just a piece of the frame stamped and pressed up in a horseshoe. It's an easy way to tell if the tractor originally came with an Onan or a Tecumseh.

Awesome job MNGB !
The Onan,Tecumseh, and cast iron Briggs models all had a little different frame setups.
