Getting the Ford 9N running again

About 1.5 yrs ago dad had the ford die on him. He couldn't get any spark so he pulled the distributor off and brought it to the shop. Its been sitting ever since. He found a bad coil and decided to buy a new coil, points, and condenser. About a month ago my brother put the new points and condenser in and today we decided to see if we could get it running. Put the distributor back in, checked for and got spark, cranked it but no go. Tried a shot of starting fluid and it ran and died. Pulled the carb drain plug and didn't get much fuel. Tapped on the carb and got better flow. Tried it again and it ran but not very good. Pulled the carb and found rust and crud and the float was sticking on the pin. I tore the carb down, ran it thru the sonic cleaner and bead blasted the bowl. The sediment bowl was full of sludge so that got cleaned up and drained all of the old gas out of the tank. I need to make a run tomorrow to pick up a carb kit and sediment bowl gasket and screen. Hopefully this will be back running tomorrow.

I didn't get the ford running because the parts house was closed for some reason. They are normally open from 8:00 to 11:30 AM on Saturdays but the gates were closed when I got there at 10:00 AM. Guess I have to wait until Monday.

Managed to get the Ford running today. I got a carb kit and figured I would throw in the new needle and seat. I spent the last 2 days trying to figure out why it wouldn't seat and flood the tractor and the next time I turn on the fuel the bowl would run dry. Today I finally notice the needle would catch in the seat because it had a rough finish. I think I have it working now. The charging system is also not working. It has a 12v alternator on it.

My brother came over and got the charging system working today after cleaning a bunch of terminals on the toggle ignition switch and changing out the alternator for one I had gone through years ago and painted up for a Minneapolis Moline tractor. Now the needle and seat are acting up again.
