Need to do a bunch of honing on a cylinder that got some water in it. Have had the hone for probably 40 years and haven't used it in about that long. I think back then we just used motor oil. Any thing better around now days, WD40, ATF, ??

I've used water soluble oil or Atf

  • Water soluble oils.
  • Mineral oils.
  • Cutting fluids.
  • Tapping fluids.
  • 10-30 weight motor oil (for use with engine cylinders)
  • Hydraulic brake fluid (for use with hydraulic brake cylinders)

Cutting fluids. Isn't that what honing oil is? About the same for tap and die fluid. Mineral oils in the same category. Looks like a lot of the fluids will do the same job.

Brake fluid is what we used back in the '60's when I worked as a young mechanic in a garage.

After having it re-bored 10 over the cross hatch should be in it. Hope so as I have had 0 luck getting a good cross hatch.
