Those old flat nose tractors are out of style now. Used to be when you had one of them & was in an accident your would be the first on there and the last one to leave.

I do love me a Pete 379 or a FL Classic.

I started on a IH Transtar with a 216 Cummins and a 4+4, and graduated to an R model Mack with a 10 speed twin stick. Nowadays, with the new high HP engines, I see a lot of 8 and 10 speed sticks. It seems the autos are proving to be a reliable setup, also.

KW is selling like mad around here. T880’s are ruling when it comes to new dump and cement trucks.

In 1981 I drove a 1977 COE Pete with 400 big Cam Cummings and 10 speed, horriable steering and dragging a Reefer box.

:D Al

My one son drives a rock and asphalt truck. Don't know the make but he siad it sure is nice with big power, auto tranny, remote tarp roll down and up and remote end gate opening width. Never has to get out of the truck if he don't want to. All their paperwork is done on a tablet and sent to the main computer at the office. Lot of work on the interstate system and he loves the $900 to 1K weekly pay checks. Problem it don't last all year, usually a 4 month shut down.

My son that lives close bought a Pete about 10 or so years ago and pulls tankers for the trucking co that he bought it from. He uses an electronic log book.

wonder if you cheat those like you could the old log books..?

Electronic logbooks are mandatory now. Cheating days are over.
We don’t have ELogs in Canada yet but the ELogs can be “edited” by the company. Trucks up here that go into the US have to use them. Worse idea govt ever came up with as now all those running ELogs are racing a clock that has absolutely no wiggle room, not one minute and you are in violation. I quit hauling into US 25 years ago when it became apparent company was going to scrutinize my log book. For 3 years I had a 4 day run into the Midwest and return home. The drivers doing it legal have to spend 6 days on the road for the same money I earned in 4 days
US Hours of service just plain suck, outdated like the rest of their trucking regulations

HOS creates problems for everyone. Some companies are turning up road speed limits to give the drivers a better chance of getting to their destination before they are out of hours. It's also putting more tucks in the road. Despite the general public's perception, most tractor accidents are not the fault of the truck driver. Onboard cameras are providing positive proof of that.
