How do I fix this. Not a GT

This was my father’s. I am not into wood working like him. But my son likes working with wood. So I want to fix this so he can have it. Any way, I used it once about five years ago and of course the wood had nails in it that I didn’t notice. Ruined the cutters. All my own fault. That was about the only time I ever used this tool since dad passed away 25 years ago. So I went looking blades and amazingly I found them. So this was going to be a winter project 5 years ago. Hehe. So I’m finally getting to it.

Any way, does anybody have any idea as to how I get these three blades in correctly, so they are all straight.
Thanks for any help.

Hehe. A new problem. Always something happens when I try to fix things. Both tables are suppose to adjust up and down. Right one seemed to work. But the left one was tight. So I oiled things up and tried moving it. It seem to start to work, but then the handle broke. Was not tight on the treads, it’s the table that’s tight. Soooo, now I’m in for it. Trying to fix that. Dad said that there was some thing wrong with it many years ago. I believe he said the table was warpped. But maybe this was the trouble. So I’m not sure if I broke it, or it was broke. I did have the table moving a bit. Any way. It’s broke !!!!!

So, in my investigation, I took the table off. And found, some one put regular washers on the bolt that holds the table on. They are bent because of being so tight. I would say a much larger and stronger flat washer or something should be there so the table can slide. Maybe a large spring between two large washers to keep it tight but still let it move.

Some thing else I learned today is, that those new blades are very very sharp. I accidentally sliced my finger a little while moving one of the blades.

So, bronzed the broken handwheel back together. Just have to file it out some to make it fit.

Filed out the repaired handle and greased it up. Installed the new blades and set them. Greased the slides on the tables and put it back together. Both tables work good now. Ran a small piece of wood thru a few times. Seems to work. Told my son it was ready for him to pick up.

Looks like the repair worked fine! Your son should get a lot of service out of that old machine!

DAC

you Might be able to get the old blades restored and sharpened,,depends how much they charge.
You may want to get a hamster with all the hamster bedding you be producing

I was thinking about getting them sharpen Jazz. Good to have an extra set of blades.
As for the hamsters,,,,,,,,,No. No hamsters here. That hamster bedding as you call it, will be used for fuel in the wood stove. Hehe

It also makes a decent substitute for oil dry

Is that piece of wood you ran through perfectly smooth? Looks like it has snipes in it from the picture.
