Some of you may remember a post I made ranting about being stupid enough to sell a guy(Abe) I know my nice looking Bolens 1220,And in a matter of weeks he copmpletely destroyed it and I vowed to never sell him another tractor,Well he called me tonite needing cash as he always does only usually he is selling some broken stereo or tool that is shot.Tonite he had this and he wanted $300 for it,,,,,Now I felt bad for the tractor because I know what is coming its way but $300 aint gonna happen,An hour later,Being desperate for cash $50 did happen.It did actually run good as I know the guy he got it from and a quick conversation confirmed that,He had rempved the points and welded a coil to the cylinder jug just above the flywheel,The flywheel caught it and broke off the fin he welded it to but didnt seem to really damage it.I figure I did alright but will have to research a bunch,IBesides the gas tank I dont know what all is missing or if that is the proper motor.I just thought I liked the looks of it and it was crying tears of joy when I arrived,,,Comment away,The more I learn the more I can help it!
Thank you in advance and if you need or want better pics just ask!

Thanks Brian I do know these tractors fairly well. ( I do have a question though. How do you tag a member in a post ? )
Reed it is suppose to have a cast iron Briggs in it but....that one is mangled ! That's a completely incorrect carb. You can't run the govenor setup with that carb,but that's minor compared to the flywheel issue. That flywheel is completely incorrect for that engine and you can't run the engine without the missing engine tin ( flywheel blower housing ) to cool the engine. You would overheat it and ruin it fast.
I don't know what that flywheel is off of but its cobbled on there.
Any 9 thru 16 hp cast iron Briggs is a direct bolt in.
Other than the engine the tractor looks good.
Those Firestone ag tires are expensive so great buy on them. Can't tell for sure but the wheels that they are on appear to be Wheel Horse from the offset.
The early large frame foot draggers are great and heavy duty machines. You have great tractor there. I would drop another cast iron Briggs in it and take care of it.

Thats the kind of info I needed,I have some older briggs complete motors and was thinking of an engine swap,I wasnt sure but the flywheel looked out of place to me,The guy (Abe) I got it off of is a cobbler big time so it doesnt suprise me that the engine has issues,He said he rebuilt it with new piston and rings,With Abe you can always depend on the fact he "Rebuilt it" and you can also depend on the fact he is full o crap!,The funny thing with Abe is you can hand him a pile of mismatched junk parts and he will make it run somehow!I will get a few more pics for your enjoyment!

Here are a few more pics ,Note where he attempted to weld on a coil to the cylinder jug fins and it broke off when it hit the flywheel!It sucks the I D tag is plastic and you cant read anything from it,I would like to know what year it is.I did chuckle when he tried to tell me the motor is a 16hp now because when he rebuilt it he bored it out

@Rustyoldjunk
Nice save. They are pretty nice machines.
I will throw a.+9 at the fact there is a rag joint missing at the engine. Also would advise not running until it is there again. Thanks for the pics. Good, solid starting point.

As for how to tag somebody. Type the at symbol and then type their username after it. The software will usually autofill and you can just click on the one you want.
