Hello, my son is all about John Deere 200 series tractors, he's 13 so we restored his 212 we didn't rebuild the engine, but we did replace the points, spark plug, condenser, coil adj. the valves new oil change new battery and terminals, rebuilt starter he rode it in the local tractor paraded he used it around our place well now when he goes to start it the starter, "bucks" it will turn and stop then it turns and stops when we remove the spark plug it cranks steady put the plug back in it goes right back to what we call buck only cranking steady when the spark plug has been removed so have we got an ignition problem do we need to readjust the valves can anyone please give as some direction. Thanks

More than likely the valves are out of adjustment as when too wide a clearance stops the camshaft's automatic compression release from working. Set valve clearance to spec and I'd bet it turns over and fires up fine again.
