I have a 1953 JD 40 T that has dual touchomatic hydraulics. However it does not have the selector lever under the seat that my manuals say it should. It does have a approx 3”diameter dial on the side.
My questions are:
1) How can it not have the selector lever?
2) What is the purpose of the dial?
I might add that this tractor is a bit of a Frankesnstein as it has a 420 motor in it and it even had an Allis Chalmers starter motor.
Any insight is appreciated.

We have a 40T also. I'll take a look at it today and take a few pics. At the moment I don't recall a dial on it but with my memory you never know. Can you post a pic of the dial on yours?

Never seen one like that. Ours has the lever. Wonder if it had been broken at one time and someone made a fix with what they had on hand. I believe they push in a plunger valve. Does the dial rotate and push the plunger in?

Here is a pic of ours:
Yours looks a bit different Cjet. The small housing on his sticks out farther. But both of may accomplish the same thing. Just my eagle eye thats half blind Cjet..Honestly don't even know what they do ? Draft control ?

Thanks to all for insight and knowledge. My dial does turn, but why I’m still not sure! It seems this may be another surprise with this tractor.
You should get an operators manual for that tractor. These valves allow the lift arm to work together in one position or separately in the other position when you remove the pin locking the arms together.
