I got a call yesterday from the local mower shop. They asked if I'd be interested in a John Deere 140. They had a customer in need of quick cash and bought this from him. I went there this morning and bought it.
John Deere 140 H3, with sleeve hitch and a Johnson loader. Motor has been replaced with a KT 17 series two. The P.O. had to "fit " the engine and cut holes for the twin stacks. The hood, grill and head lights are in good shape, no cracks or dents. Which tells me the loader has been on there for some time and has protected them. The loader works well although I haven't tried it with a load yet. They also rigged up a foot control for the hydrostat. It came with 6 JD wheel weights an extra KT 17 series 2 engine, and a few spare parts.

You lucky dog. Thats a neat set up for the foot control. I like to do that to my 140H3. I’ll have to look real good at that set up. What year is it Rick. She’d be hard to steer I’d think, I know mine is with out any thing on it. Quite the stacks on it.

I can get you more pictures of the foot control if you want.
Can't find a model/serial number badge. Tractor data says 1968-1974.

The hand lever no longer has any tension on it, so it doesn't snap into a neutral position anymore and just slides right through during its travel from full forward to full reverse and back. You could eliminate the hand lever, or keep the option to use it or the pedal. In this configuration it does limit travel distance of the foot pedal.
I threw in some pictures of this particular sleeve hitch and its adaptions. They added a trailer hitch ball and used it for adding weights to balance the front load.

Thanks a lot Rick. I figured the friction pad for the handle would be loosened, so the foot pedal would work.

Nice find, Rick! There's some nice homemade innovation on that tractor! That loader is going to be a good worker for you!

I couldn't stand looking at that pedal. I took it off cleaned and painted it this morning. just reinstalled it a little while ago. i had a left over piece of safety tread and cut a couple pieces for it. Now all I got to do is get it dirty.

How is that foot control going to work with the individual brake pedals right in front of it ? Nice way use both if need be. Good loader set up for sure. Not a fan of stacks though but might be hard to make any changes now.

I can see that the serial number tag has been removed from your tractor. If I was to take a guess on the year, I would say it's either a 1971 or 1972 model year.

The hitch isn't the original John Deere hitch. It appears to be fabricated from another brand or completely homemade.

I wouldn't recommend mounting all of those wheel weights. John Deere suggests only (1) or (2) weights per side. You could build yourself a hitch mounted weight box and put the extra two weights in it.
