John Deere 42C deck repair

I was getting the deck ready to install and noticed how bad the rust was at the chute opening. I tapped it with a hammer and big chunks fell out, so it needed to be repaired. I have an old, trashed deck that I used for donor material and shaped it with the acetylene torch and hammer and dolly. Once the piece was shaped, I ran it thru the blast cabinet to clean it up for welding.

You did a nice job on patching that deck. I had a John Deere 225 with the 42C deck given to me by a neighbor, rough shape. The deck was swiss cheese so I found a used one for $100, not in great shape but better thatn the one that was on it. A new deck shell was over $1400. All I had to do was replace the deck, the seat, the clutch, the top half of the hood, the belts, the battery, add a front tire tube and service it. A right handy mower.
