Joining the third millenium

After decades of running an all manual, open station, 2wd-open diff, 35 hp tractor for all my tractor chores, I upgraded to a 3 year old 40 hp 4wd loader tractor with hydro stat drive, locking rear diff, and a cab.

Great looking machine. I was actually looking for a Kioti when I bought my tractor. Wasn't any near me during the China flu.

I love old machinery. But there is a lot to be said for a new tractor with modern features and amenities. A buddy of mine operates a small beef farm. He has slowly upgraded to new equipment over the last 5 years. He said he can never go back to bailing without a cab. AC on and music playing.

You could be right but I understand that parts are getting pretty scarce for that tractor.

True, but it rarely needs much other than hoses. As much as I would love ac and a cab, I don't want all the crap they put in a new one.

When out in the field I still like an open platform. The cabs are nice in the hot dusty weather though. In the winter it's a whole different story. I'll take a cab every time.

Mine is missing the side panels, so it is plenty warm in the winter after it gets heated up. It gets a bit miserable in the summer. Of I could find replacements I could almost have climate control.

Way back when, Steph said I had the wasyjob riding the tractor around on a job one summer. I let her take over for a while. She didn't stay on it long.
