Kohler Courage Valve Seat

A co worker of mine has a Cub Cadet mower with the Kohler Courage engine. An exhaust valve seat came loose on the one head. Are heads available for a decent price or is the head repairable?

What hp is the engine? What is the model number? There are several lawn & garden salvage yards that might have a head for sale. Have you checked on the Kohler site for parts?

You can sometimes place the seal back in and peen around the edges to hold it in

It's the Chinese built 19 hp model. Jack's Small Engines sells a head for $161.00

I did that with an 8 hp B&S one time and it was a short lived fix. I personally would not go that route.

Might be wise to pull the other head and check it's seats.

Unless the machine has less than 100 hours on it I'd say don't waste any money on trying to fix it, just look for a good used replacement. Those were cheap engines and Cub Cadet only gave the whole machine an average life expectancy of abpprox 253 hours. That being said, if that's the single cylinder engine I might have a decent used head from one that split the block wide open at 63 hours but was still running. I'll look when I get up to work

Hi a good engine machine shop can repair that seat, pretty common these days with all the alum head engines

Local machine shop is repairing it for around $60. Thanks for all who replied.
