I was grading my driveway the other day with my late 1989 roper garden tractor and the engine started skipping and would only run with the choke pulled all the way out. the next day it would not start at all. I took the carb apart clean it all including the jets with a small wire . after putting the carb back on I changed the fuel filter, but no go.. She turns over but will not start. I shall take plugs out tomorrow and maybe next test the coil, Is there anywhere else I should be looking . I am stumped . ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks for your time Gismo

I had an issue with a twin kohler. It would run great when first started. About 20-30 minutes it would spit, sputter, and only run with the choke pulled.

Coil was good until it got hot. New coil fixed it up.

Just my experience. I chased fuel and carb issues that didn't exist in my case.

That's how my PK1620 acted I too thought it was a fuel problem finally used the spark tester and found the RH cylinder was cutting out more so when warm

It drove me nuts! Had great spark cold. I was convinced it was a fuel problem. Finally had the great idea to check spark when it was hot...at least it got a lot of new parts on it for the new owner.

Not familiar with princess auto.
But if it's like most tractors they had several versions of the same machine with different go engines available.
I'd guess this princess auto is like harbor freight? Alot of guys like their predator engines, to me they aren't worth much if anything. Why throwing up the white surrender flag on the Kohler? Might not cost much at all to get it going again. Those were actually pretty good engines.os this one vertical or horizontal?

This is a horizontal opposed twin. It ran fine the day before I hauled three loads of bark with my 3x5 cart from around my firewood area and the next day graded my driveway and it started sputtering and would hardly make it up my hill.

I agree don’t give up so soon sounds like a coil problem. I’ve never had an issue with a fuel tank vacuum problem. I have heard some say a non vented or clogged fuel cap can cause these problems.

I have taken the covers off the engine and removed the coil. After Christmas I will order one through isavetractors.com. He seems quite knowledgeable . If the coil does trick I will buy a new carb after . Thanks every one for your input I appreciated a lot . I will talk back again after Christmas , bye for now and have a good holidays
