Went out to mow yesterday and noticed that the slug that covers the end of the air intake tube was missing. What is it called and where do I get a replacement? What actually holds it in?

Its called a welch plug here's a link to them on Amazon but I just went with this size to find them you'll have to measure it and use that measurement
Also here's some good carb information Disassembly, Cleaning and Repair of Briggs and Stratton Large Two-Piece Flo-Jet Carburetor

Its installed in the hole with the curved side out and then you use a hammer and a punch the punch the bulge in that will tightened it in the bore

Arn't they the same thing
Not really. The Welch plug is similar to a press in freeze out plug like in motors. An expandable freeze out plug has a small bolt on the end( if this is what Rick used) that expands as you tighten it. My father used one in his 1970 AC when the Welch plug fell out, that was in the 80's, still in that carb in my barn

Yea I I kind of glossed over the expandable part was just thinking of a regular freeze plug
I kind of like the 4 layers of duck tape

I need to find a few of those carbs in rebuild able shape, the size of flo jet that was used on the horizontal 8 hp. I'm on a bad streak with that particular carb right now.
Need 2 at least, would like a 3rd for a ready spare
