Last match of the season

I always thought that when plowing, the plowed dirt is supposed to be turned over on to the previous furrow so that there would be a relatively flat surface when you were finished. I see that in your competition though, each line of plowed dirt is a hill unto itself (straight as an arrow!!!). is that for competition purposes?

Hi The plough we use can put the furrow on its back or on its edge depending on the ploughshare. In the horse days you left the furrow on its edge leaving grooves ,looks like a saw tooth edge this left grooves so that when corn was sown by hand the corn fell in the grooves then you cross harrowed across the furrows this left a level finish.then they used to sow grass seed by hand harrowed at an angle to the furrow. This gave you oats or corn for this year and grass or hay for next year .Competition wise the judge must be able to read the furrow hence it is on its edge if you notice in the last picture the furrows are hard to count and I lost points that is why I am trialing a new tractor and plough but only time will tell.I ploughed with this combination for 16 years.Could hold my own with a throwout and my feering and my finish I was always in the points but because they could not read my furrows I lost points
