When I first came here most folks hadn't seen a Honda tractor. I hadn't either, but I've been really curious and have found quite a bit of info. I'm going to add to this thread when I'm not lazy and it will serve as an information source for current and future contributors.
I'll break it down into models starting with model 5518.

I think the “Mighty 11” and “Mighty 13” might differ slightly from the RT5000 and the H5013, they are sold I believe only over in Japan although I’ve seen a few in North America for sale. I’ve noticed that they seem to have 2 brake pedals (split brakes) not sure what other differences there are, but it seems like the Mighty 11/13 almost always are lacking a front lift like the RT5000 and H5013 have. Of course the RT5000 comes with front and rear lift as standard equipment and the H5013/H5518 with front lift standard and rear lift optional.

This is correct. Please add anything I'm missing.

There was also the H6522 Honda, this was a step above the RT5000/H5013/H5518 series tractors and more of a compact tractor than a garden tractor. They used a 3 cylinder Honda diesel engine, bet you didn't even know Honda ever made diesels lol.

Ok. So the Honda tractors were a great machine. How come they stopped making them.

Noel.

I dont think it ever caught on for them. They sell a lot of push mowers.

I've seen one Honda tractor. My dads neighbor had one when I was growing up. It wasnt one of these garden tractors. It was a lawn tractor. Looks like the hot 3813. It was liquid cooled. I remember him working on it constantly and complaining about it.

These heavy duty ones look pretty nice. If I ever see one pop up on craigslist I might have to take a look.

The story goes they couldn't produce this type of machine and compete with the flood of cheap brands that hit the market in the 80's and 90's.
Seems logical, as you can see, they loaded their machines with options.
There is also no evidence that these were necessarily considered "great machines."

I think what it came down to was price more than anything, and let’s face it, small diesel tractors were getting cheaper and more popular at the time. I guess they were never a big seller for them so that was that.

Honda got involved with Indy car racing and put their resources there. I don't follow Indy racing so have no clue how that panned out for them. Motorcycles and 4 wheelers made them their $$$ for years.
