I have recently acquired a 1250 Cub. I installed new fuel, filter, valve, lines, carburetor, air filter, points, condenser, coil, and sparkplug.
It starts easy, idles fine, and revs up to about 3400 rpm, but it won't stay at that rpm it bounces around ( not surging).
When I engage the belt clutch it slows down and sometimes blows blueish/ white smoke.
It also creeps, I can't find a happy spot in the direction lever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cant help on the engine but if you step on the brake it should put the hydro in neutral and stop the creep. You probably have some parts worn under the tunnel cover. Best to get the service manual for that tractor as it will help you with that creep issue and any other literl thing that could creep up on you.

Welcome aboard glad to have you. When you engage the clutch your putting it under load but it should catch back up quickly. The blueish white smoke sounds like an oil leak like rings. Pull the spark plug to see what it looks like. It should be dry and not wet and black indicating burnt oil. If it’s just dry black you could be running too rich and can also put out a little smoke. I have a 1250 too that needs to be put back together. Keep us posted.
