New Plastic Welder

Ordered this a few days ago and it arrived today. This is a Polyvance 5700HT Mini-Weld Model 7. We have a bunch of repairs to make on our John Deere Gator plastic along with several mower hoods.

I’m interested in how well the bond holds as so many plastic differ when it comes to bonding/adhesion.

We will find out. Like most things we will have a learning curve making repairs. The kit comes with a variety of different plastic welding rods for the different materials.

Main issue I have heard is knowing what type of plastic your going to work with. Mostly a trial and error thing. A GT hood will be much different than a car bumper.

I bought a similar plastic welder to repair a large gouge in a zero turn fuel tank that also punched clean through a 3/8" hole. First I used plastic from the very thick tank to fill the void, then melted into that with stainless steel screen in the kit. Then covered with more plastic from tank. After that I used matching black kit supplied plastic sticks and it ended up really nice and zero leak. It's a cheap kit, so may end up buying a higher end kit one of these days. VERY satisfied with plastic welding. I used to just use a soldering iron to seal up leaks, but these kits are way better.

We tried a cheapo Harbor freight that worked OK, but the tip broke off while melting some wire mesh into a plastic part.

Bring it back as they will probably give you a new one.
