Polarizing starter generator?

Why do you ask that? Have you changed anything? I have swapped electrical components on many Cubs and have never had to polarize the S/G. If it is brand new you might need to polarize the S/G. Is it discharging when it runs? If you have to polarize just take a short jumper wire and briefly touch the Gen terminal and Bat terminal on the voltage regulator . You should see a slight spark and it's done.

I have heard both yes and more people saying no, maybe some can jump in and explain, I used to do this on some mine when I put the battery in the spring, some I didn't and noticed it didn't make a difference it seemed to charge after using it for awhile

I have changed the starter gen and voltage reg but when I conceited the battery it almost instantly melted a wire sorry can't remember off hand what one so I put the old one back on and it just sits below the discharge. I have no way to test to see if it is actually discharging or doing nothing or actually charging. I've been having charging issues with the tractor for quit some time but never bothered to fix it. I guess now is the time. I do have plans to restore the tractor again it runs and drives.
