Resurrecting an old Brinkman Smoker

Had this for some time. It was a 'plug and play' electric, no adjustment. Since I had 3 turkey fryers, I thought it would be good to use one burner in this thing. At least we could adjust the heat.

Took the electric burner out and bored a larger hole for the propane burner.

Made a cover for the burner so the ashes from the wood chips wouldn't clog it.

That's where I am right now.
 
This burner is too big. I hooked it up this morning and set a temp gauge on the top shelf. Within a few minutes it was at 375°. Took the burner apart and welded shut every other hole. Put it back together and still had 450° within 5 minutes with the valve barely open.

Think I need the valve & burner from a single burner grill to make it work!
 
If you have one, an acetylene regulator would give better flow control just to try it and see if it works. If it does just get the left hand nipple at a welding supply for a regulator and I'm sure any air regulator will do the same. IIRC propane is only about 120psi.
