Hi there, I have a 74 Satoh s650g that I have fixed up. The last thing I need to fix is the govenor but I have hardly any experience with them. I can get a little more than 1500rpm out of the tractor and then the govenor will back the throttle off to idle.

Is there an aftermarket one I can get? Or adjustments i can do? Any help would be much appreciated! Everything else is running great and I'd love to be able to use the tractor on my property

Welcome to the site here, there are a few Satoh owners here too,

Have you been to this site? It's fully dedicated to just the Satoh S650G model.

I had worked with the people helping them find key bits of info on these Satoh and Mitsubishi machines back in 2019-2020.

On the top of the main page, you will see this, these are live links.
We now have a PDF Repair Manual and Instruction Book ( owners manual)

It sounds like the governor is either sticking or out of adjustment. First thing I’d check is the governor linkage — make sure it moves freely and isn’t binding anywhere. Sometimes old springs get weak too, so take a look at the governor spring and see if it needs replacing.
There’s usually an adjustment screw on the governor arm or housing. Try adjusting it slightly to allow higher RPM — but go slow and make small changes. No need to max it out.
Aftermarket governors for these are hard to find, but you might find parts from a Mitsubishi G3200 (same engine) if needed.
