Simplicity questions

Hi. New here. Looking at some 3416h and 7117 7119 simplicity’s. Looking primarily for grass cutting and hoping it lasts a long time. My questions would be what motors, differentials, and decks/ attachments work for the models I have listed. The one 3416 needs a motor and a 7117 needs a deck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Also chime in if you prefer one model over another and why.

Hi welcome to the group all listed models are good machines, the 3414 would have had a B&S 32xxx series engine excellent engine but a bit on the thrifty side the 7117 & 7119 would have had Kohler KT 17 & 19 engines the Series 1 engines had a hybrid pressure lube system where the Con rods only got spray lubed if they have Series 2 engines they are a good engine with full pressure lube, decks would be either 42" or 48" Simplicity makes excellent decks and they mow very very good there was many of these tractors built so finding a deck may not be to hard all depending if there was a dealer in your area. The Sovereign is good and would have a M18 Kohler engine excellent engine same size deck as others

So would all the decks be interchangeable between each other? Also the 3416 needs anengine. Is there a modern replacement that works without modifications. Thanks

What do you mean by modern? There were other engines used in that frame some Kohler models but all would be from that era can not tell for sure about the interchangeability of the decks

Ok. Thanks for the info. I meant a Koehler or Briggs out of a newer garden tractor of another brand.
Hi Jake your getting good advise I've had a couple of Simplicity's but not a familiar as the others one thing to check when looking to use a different engine is the engine sit down deep into the frame so sometimes oil dipsticks or pan oil drain pipes don't match up and you'll need an engine that has or can have a wheel adapter to bolt the drive shaft to and the when mounted the DS will not be to short or to long

Got it. Thanks. Really appreciate everyone chiming in. I love the older equipment. Just build so much better

The AC HB212 I grew up on was best mowing machine I've ever used including several zero turns.
I still have it in the barn, one of these days I will get the replacement motor in and it back going. The hydro has a major leak so that will have to be fixed.

I know they did have an issue with wear in the BGB (beveled gear box) but I'm not sure all the details on that.

I picked up a 7117H repowered with a 20hp Kohler Command from a friend. He said it was an easy swap. I love it, it starts up right away and runs smooth with plenty of power. I got a rear mount tiller, a boom pole, and a deck. I mowed about three years with it and had to retire the deck, it looked like Swiss cheese. Last year I got a 3415H mostly for the deck but the tractor was in real good shape. This deck will fit both tractors. My plan is to use the 3415H as a grass cutter and use the 7117H for tilling and grunt work. You can’t go wrong with these. Before I bought the 3415H I was searching for a deck. They are out there you just have to be patient.

I really love the look of that 3415H. Had a chance a few years ago to pick one up with some accessories. One of those I'll call tomorrow and when tomorrow came it was gone.

Everyone has told me nothing cuts like a simplicity. I still think a properly adjusted and setup JD 110 cuts best in my experience but I don't have a simplicity to compare to.

I really like the look of the 3415. If everything works out I think I’m going to buy the sovereign 18 and look for a deck. Mostly because it’s a good price and it’s only 45 minutes from me. The 3416 is 3.5 hours

I like the look of them as well. Never had a JD but a lot of older machines are better than what gets stamped out today
