Simplicity

I recently sold off all my simplicity tractors/attachments, nice machines they cut nice, gotta watch the bevel gear boxes aren't stripped out. just gotta get used to left side chute on the deck

I might go look at it Saturday. If I can get it for a little less than 500 I might pick it up. The bevel gear box? Which one is that? Can I tell by running the tractor?
How about the variator? Do they mess up?

it's where the drive shaft goes into, just watch for excessive play, you can rebuild them but it's time and money, Rick aka boyscout862 is good with these older simplicity questions. they are good machines and work well, I just lost intrest in them and started focusing more on old wheelhorses

There's a right angle gearbox is under the seatpan that has the engine driveshaft attached to it and has the pulley with belt to the transaxle. Check that gearbox by turning it back and forth to see had much play it has in it. Also shake the shafts to check to see if the bearing are decent.

The gearbox should look something like this.1960s-allis-chalmers-b10-tractor-bevel-gearbox-simplicity-riding-mower-part.jpeg
