Spark Tester

I've been using an adjustable inline spark tester, but at times it's hard to see the spark. This morning the light in my brain came on! Why not use my inductive timing light? I'll be able to see that light! It's similar to this one.

I'll have to have a battery to hook it to, but most engines I test are in tractors anyway.

I am not sure it takes a fully effective ignition to trigger the light. Will be interesting to find out, I will be glad to hear how that works out for you. Don

The inductive has 3 wires, pos. & neg. and one that clamps over the plug wire.

I had that same issue a few years ago. then when I purchased a new plug it came with a pressed paper sleeve over the threaded end. My spark checker is from NAPA and simulates a spark plug so I use the sleeve over the end of the spark checker and like looking at a match down a well.

Geez I have two timing lights and know exactly where they are! If it wasn't so cold tonight, I would have used one of them! Just did it by ear for now.

I have 4 or 5 of those cheep ones up on the shelf that the bulbs blew out it. Havent found the right bulb anywhere yet and probably never will.

I’ve run them on engines for hours trying to monitor spark. (Ended up being a sticky valve that I couldn’t have found without it)
Never had one blow.

Guess I'll look into one of these as I haven't found where I hid the timing light!

You probably have better quality than mine were. I got them off ebay, 2 in a package for around $6-7. Checking for spark they would start working and then quit - bulb would be black.

Kenny I got the same version by Penske I think was made for Sears. I had it out at a yard sale to get rid of but only a few guys knew what it was. I'll have to try that.
