steering and Plastic dash repair on a early 1970'S white/MTD

Had a little accident over the winter that left my plastic dash trashed and my steering disengaged. The plastic I can probably repair myself but could use any help from anyone who has had to do a repair. My biggest concern is the steering, the sleeve that the steering post goes through has broken off at the base of the steering assembly. The steering wheel is rusted on to the steering post to the point where it is virtually impossible to remove which means the plastic part cannot be removed without removing the steering post sleeve and steering gears. I have everything apart except the steering post from the (pinion gear?) don't know if that is the correct name. Anyway my question is, haw does this come apart? i assume there is a roll-pin but can not see one yet,(need to do some more cleaning)
I know this is not the best description of my problem but someone may have had this problem in the past or have done a restoration where the tractor has been completely disassembled

Check with the mower recycler yards. Bet there are a lot of the steering assemblies there that would work just fine. Looks like that wiring needs some attention also.

Yes the wiring does need attention, I have new wire and a new voltage regulator to put on also. I do have an exploded diagram( somewhere) I will upload when I find it. The tractor is pretty rough but is a worker, cut 12 cord of wood this winter, hauled it out with the ole girl, I have another five cord I cut this April to haul out once I get the steering repaired.
I don't own a welder or I could weld the broken piece without taking it out. tomorrow I hope to have better pictures to upload, thanks for the replies, I will check out the plastic dash resurrection link also.

For under $100 you can get a 90 Amp wire welder from HF. I like mine and use it a lot. Probably less than trying to repair it by replacement to hauling it some place and you will still have the welder down the road. Trust me, you will need/want it sooner or later.

You are right about the welder, any part i needed welded in the past was easily removed and taken to have repaired, just kept putting off buying a welder; the time is probably right to make that purchase. I have to admit that I know very little about welders and what one to purchase for the repairs that I would encounter . Princess auto( Canada) has one on sale now, not sure if it would be suitable for the welding i would need to do?

I am a little embarrassed that i did not think about looking in my tractor manual before I made my original post, the exploded diagram explained all I needed to know, never even occurred to me until the post from MH81; thank you sir for that greatly appreciated. DSCF0335.jpg

You might want to check Kijiji for quality used welder. Last week a Air Liquide mig was posted locally. I have same unit which was $600 new 20 years ago and no issues.
