Back to the sprouting topic for a minute. These are Yukon gold potatoes that are grocery store bought.
So they must not have been sprayed to keep from sprouting.
I would say they would grow just fine.
Certified seed is disease free. Not certified to grow.
I don’t know any thing about certified seed or what is done to it. So I’m only guessing.

The store bought will definitely sprout & will probably yield some if planted even though their treated. If you put seed potatoes in a bag for the same amount of time you'll have vines & when planted will give a much higher yield than a store bought. A seed potato is certified against diseases not certified or guaranteed to grow. Why do you buy store bought instead of seed. Is it because of the price or availability. I know in our area if you don't buy your seed potatoes & onion sets early their gone very soon. Going to different hardware stores, & farm supply over the years we only have about 4 or 5 varieties. I've only seen Kennebec, Russet, Yukon Gold, Pontiac & Red. Most others you have to order. Those blues you plant would be interesting.

I do buy certified seed, But if I needed more or different seed, I would use store bought. My point here in this post is, that store bought potatoes, in my area, Sprout. If they are sprayed or not to keep from sprouting, I don't know. I didn't think they were allowed to spray anymore for that.

I know that if my wife forgets about her bag of potatoes in the cupboard, they are sprouting. I have planted a few and got decent results. We tend to dig our potatoes when they are still small, wife likes em that way, so I guess I'm not a good indicator of yield

OK Noel, since we are talking taters.......Planted mine about 3 weeks ago. They are up mostly a couple of inches now.
Question is, when do I hill them up?. Do I do it now and bury them or do I wait until they are up 4 or 5 inches and then do it and leave a bit showing?

Mine are up about the same.
Wait till they are up about 6” or so, then hill them. Leave about 2” or so showing. That’s what I do. Everybody has their own methods.
What kind did you plant, poncho.

Noel.
