Tractor Carb cleaning

The needle and seats are leaking in both of these carbs. One from a Ford 851 and the other is from a John Deere 40. I'll be cleaning the JD 40 fuel tank and sediment bowl also. It was plugged when I started them earlier this spring. Hoping I can just clean them without putting kits in them but time will tell. Just got done removing them from the tractors and brought them to the shop.

Felt like Carb day at Indy. Cleaned 3 carbs, a sediment bowl, and a fuel tank. I added in the carb from our Craftsman GT6000 that I mount the snowblower on. I was having to open the main jet more and more or run with part choke. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. I should probably get some new fuel filters for all of the GT's also.

These are the JD 40 carb and sediment bowl:

Next is the Ford carb:

Installed the carb on the GT6000 and fired it up. Made a small adjustment to the idle mixture and its running better than it has in years.

Cleaned the sediment bowl for the Ford 851 this morning. Ran it thru the sonic cleaner and hosed it off. Cleaned up pretty good.

The John Deere 40 carb and tank are ready to install on the tractor. The old fuel has settled out now and you can see all of the crumbs in the bottom of the bucket. Gas was sure orange looking and didn't smell very good.

Your cleaning methods work great, CJet. That glass sediment bowl has sun colored purple! High manganese content in the glass allows that to happen.

Didn't know that about the glass. Just doing a quick cleaning with no paint work just to get them up and running. The Ford will be raking hay and the 40 is our pasture mower unless the Haybine breaks and then it will be the hay mower.

Workhorse tractors don't have to be detailed for show, CJet! That have a job to do so put them to work!

Brought the John Deere 40 down to the shop to swap out the mufflers. The old one was shot. Had to use the hot wrench to get the bolts loose but got it done. Tomorrow I need to put the new screen and gasket in the fuel bowl. May clean and sharpen the sickle to get it ready for trimming pastures. The new original style muffler is a lot quieter than the old aftermarket.

Thanks, GB. We keep fixing small things on this tractor every year. We replaced one rear rim several years ago and still need to do the other. Last year we got the brakes working again. Now this year we had this fuel issue but its now fixed and muffler replaced with an original style. Still need to find how water is getting into one final drive. Once that is fixed I would like to paint it.

This is what I get for my work on the John Deere 40. Parked it on the farm and a couple days later, one of the front tires is flat. I had checked all of the pressures when I had it at the shop and only the other front tire was a little low. At least its only flat on the bottom.
