Weeding the garden.

With the tractor and cultivator. Hope to ruffle it up again in a few days. Hope. Need better diggers or what ever you call them. More like a V shaped shovel thing that takes a wider bite and cuts the weeds off instead of just draging them around. Any way. That’s all I got. Could try the tandem disks. But they are to hard to lift manually.

Noel I think around here they are called sweeps. I take the chisel points off and replace them with 6" or 8" sweeps depending on the type of cultivator.

Thanks Chris. I’ll go some day and see if the tractor places have any. The ones on the red circle are the ones I like.
Sweeps, that’s the name I couldn’t think of.

For the Brinley cultivator I wold get the 10". Lost of used or NOS ones on ebay. I got some that were poor cast ones made in Canada and had to grind a lot of relief off the back side of the cutting edge. Needs more to cut better.

I’ve been wanting some sweeps for a tool bar I have in progress. When I didn’t need them I seen them several times. Around here a lot of old timers sell their stuff at yard sales really reasonable. I like talking to them, it seems like even though your giving them their asking price they want to make sure it’s going to a good home.

I have mine over lapping about 3", which at times is not quite enough with a tough weed. I need to readjust mine so the sweeps run closer to flt than pointed down so much. Just a matter of doing it is all. Sprayed the garden a week ago so weeds are under control for the most part. Now to keep the deer out. They destroyed 4 cabbage heads, 2 cauliflower and 3 broccoli. Haven't bothered the onions or beets yet. As soon as the top of the onions start to fll over they will get pulled, tied in bunches of 4 and hung up in the open shed to finish drying. Beets will make pickled beets. Spray that whole area to kill off everything. Then take the fence up and forget about garden except for the tomato plants. Deer don't care for them as they have not bothered then. Put some flasher back up; this morning. didn't realize it but only had 2 out of about 8 still up.
